20 FILMS, 2 PREVIEWS IN THE USA, 4 TRIBUTES, INVITATIONAL EVENT AT THE MPAA AND NIGHT OF THE NIAF AWARDS HIGHLIGHT PROGRAM OF THE 3rd ITALIAN FILM FEST OCTOBER 12-17 CAPRI, (Italy), October 3 - The new Italian cinema is leaving for America and the Washington, Italia Film Fest in Washington, D.C. October 12-17. Some 20 directors are represented, including “Working Slowly – Radio Alice” by Guido Chiesa, “The Consequences of Love” by Paolo Sorrentino, “Don’t Move” by Sergo Castellitto, “The Rest of Nothing” by Antonietta de Lille, “Another Life” by Michele Placido, and an official screening at the Motion Picture Association of America, the U.S. film industry’s policy leader, of “The House Keys” by Gianni Amelio, the official Italian candidate for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. Six film classics also will be screened. Homage will be paid to Michelangelo Antonioni, Alberto Sordi and Massimo Troisi. Two films will receive their American premieres: “My Father: Rua Alguem 5555” by Egidio Eronico and “Hollywood Flies” by Fabio Segatori, young Italian directors who have directed international casts. This third annual Washington, Italia Film Festival is organized by Capri in the World Institute in coordination with Cinecittà Holding, Lazio Region, RAI Trade, Union Camere, and the Chamber of Commerce of Naples, and is carried out in conjunction with the annual gala and related activities of the National Italian American Foundation. In testimony to the importance of the event, Giancarlo Giannini, one of Italy’s leading stars, will lead the Italian delegation to the U.S. capital. “We have five crowded days of appointments for the promotion of the Italian cinema in the USA, as well as the image of Italy and above all of Southern Italy,” said Pascal Vicedomini, general secretary of the Capri in the World Institute, and creator and producer of the festival as well as the winter film event, “Capri, Hollywood.” All of the screenings at the Loews Cineplex in Georgetown will be free. The festival also will involve students of Catholic University of America, a festival partner. Vicedomini said, “The attention for our cinema in the USA at this moment is very high with the premiere of “My Father,” the film about the Nazi “angel of death,” Joseph Mengele, played by screen icon Charlton Heston, and also starring Italian-American F. Murray Abraham. And, thanks to Jack Valenti, the legendary just-retired president of MPAA, the festival will generate special attention for “The House Keys” in advance of the January 25, 2005 Oscar nominations for best foreign film.” NIAF, the organization that represents more than 20 million Italian-Americans, will honor tenor Luciano Pavarotti at its gala. The NIAF gala has been traditionally attended by the presidential candidates, members of the Italian American Congressional Delegation, and Italian American leaders in business, sports, government, entertainment and the arts. “This event will also help our industry gain attention of Italian-Americans and U.S. leaders,” said Vicedomini. “On this great occasion for our cinema and its spread in the world, we are fortunate to have with us RAI Trade and its president, Roberto di Russo.” Other titles being shown include “After Midnight” by Davide Farrario, “The Vanity Serum” by Alex Infascelli, “What Fault is it of Ours?” by Carlo Verdone, and three films starring Giannini: The Oscar-nominated “Seven Beauties” by Lina Wertmuller, the recent “I Love You, Eugenio” and “Forever.” Informations: caprinelmondo@tin.it Washington DC 3 ottobre 2004 – Il nuovo cinema italiano sbarca in America. E per volontà di Jack Valenti, il leggendario presidente dell’MPAA, partirà proprio dal nostro festival l’avventura de ‘Le chiavi di casa’, in cerca di una distribuzione americana, verso le designazioni del 25 gennaio all’Oscar nella cinquina dei migliori film stranieri. Grazie al gemellaggio con il gala della Niaf, l’organizzazione che rappresenta gli oltre 20 milioni di italo a americani e che premierà quest’anno il maestro Luciano Pavarotti, alla presenza del presidente Bush e dello sfidante Kerry, - spiega Vicedomini - godremo di un parterre d’eccezione e della massima attenzione dei media e degli addetti ai lavori.
